In a landmark move that signals India’s growing influence in global aviation, IndiGo has doubled its Airbus A350 order from 30 to 60 aircraft, strengthening its long-haul ambitions and setting the stage for a new era in international connectivity.
The airline confirmed that it has converted 30 of its purchase rights into firm orders for the Airbus A350-900, building on its initial order placed in April 2024. This announcement follows the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during the IATA AGM in New Delhi (June 2025) — marking IndiGo’s bold entry into the wide-body aircraft segment.
With this, IndiGo now holds firm orders for 60 Airbus A350-900s, along with purchase rights for 40 more — further cementing its position as a key player in India’s aviation growth story.
🛫 IndiGo’s Vision for Global Expansion

Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, emphasized that this expansion is part of the airline’s long-term vision to make India a global aviation hub by 2030.
“Today is a special day for IndiGo as we solidify our commitment to expanding our international footprint and offering unparalleled connectivity to our customers,” Elbers said. “The firm order for 30 additional A350-900s reflects our confidence in India’s aviation future and our strategic partnership with Airbus.”
Elbers highlighted that the A350 fleet will play a crucial role in IndiGo’s internationalisation strategy, enabling the airline to connect India with more global destinations and provide passengers with enhanced comfort and long-haul travel options.
🌍 Airbus and Rolls-Royce Partnerships Strengthen IndiGo’s Long-Haul Future

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, EVP of Sales, Commercial Aircraft at Airbus, remarked that the A350’s fuel efficiency, range, and comfort align perfectly with IndiGo’s growth plans:
“The A350’s efficiency and passenger comfort perfectly match IndiGo’s long-haul ambitions. This milestone strengthens our partnership with one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines.”
In a parallel development, IndiGo also announced a landmark agreement with Rolls-Royce to power its A350 fleet with the Trent XWB-84 engines — the most efficient large aero-engines in commercial service today.
The Rolls-Royce TotalCare Agreement ensures continuous health monitoring, predictive maintenance, and optimized performance throughout the aircraft lifecycle. The Trent XWB engines deliver 84,000 pounds of thrust, ensuring world-class fuel efficiency, reliability, and reduced emissions — underscoring IndiGo’s commitment to sustainable and efficient operations.
“Our partnership with Rolls-Royce marks another step toward ensuring reliability, efficiency, and sustainability in our long-haul operations,” added Elbers.
🛩️ New Routes, New Horizons
Under its ‘Towards New Heights, Across New Frontiers’ strategy, IndiGo has already expanded its network to Manchester and Amsterdam, with Copenhagen, London, and Athens expected to follow soon through its Boeing 787-9 (damp lease) and upcoming Airbus A321XLR fleet.
The induction of the A350-900s will open up new intercontinental routes, including potential services to North and South America, significantly strengthening IndiGo’s position in the global aviation market.
Currently operating a fleet of over 400 aircraft, with nearly 900 more on order (A320NEO, A321NEO, A321XLR, and A350-900), IndiGo continues to anchor India’s aspiration to emerge as a leading global aviation power.
